[20-Aug-18] After several days of fierce winds and waves, the sea has calmed near the R/V Revelle. Thanks to the clearer weather, the EXPORTS team is able to return to work deploying scientific equipment such as this Marine Snow Catcher. These instruments sample water from the Twilight Zone - the focus of the cruise - so that scientists can better understand how phytoplankton and zooplankton impact how carbon is exported to the deep ocean. In the photo, Dr. Uta Passow of the University of California Santa Barbara holds a line as the instrument is lowered over the side of the vessel.
