Lake Pontchartrain
Perched among Lake Pontchartrain and the many other estuaries all around, New Orleans has enviable access to water. However, significant portions of the city are below sea level, making it prone to flooding. This Landsat 9 scene was gathered on Sep. 30, 2022.
Lake Pontchartrain is a brackish estuary located in southeastern Louisiana. It covers an area of 630 square miles (1,600 squre kilometers) with an average depth of 12 to 14 feet (3.7 to 4.3 m).
