This satellite image shows water along Florida's coasts turned bright turquoise by seafloor sediments that were mixed upwards when Hurricane Ian plowed through. Close to shore, sediment and dissolved organic matter from land turned the water a brown color. This MODIS-Aqua scene was acquired on Oct. 1, 2022.
Ian was a large and destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane. It caused widespread damage across western Cuba and the southeast US, especially the states of Florida and South Carolina.
