PACE Data Now Available Through EGIS Services

Ten PACE data products in service of ocean, atmospheric, and terrestrial applications are now provided through Earthdata Geographic Information Systems (EGIS) imagery services. EGIS provides cloud-native, GIS-ready data that complies with ArcGIS and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards, allowing GIS users to easily find and utilize NASA data. This effort directly bridges PACE data with the broad domain of GIS end users for the first time, including being discoverable in the ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World. Read more »

Outreach News

Maryland Water Monitoring Council annual meeting

On November 20, Jeremy Werdell gave the opening keynote presentation at the 31st Maryland Water Monitoring Council annual meeting. This presentation, "Observing the microscopic living (and non-living) ocean from sPACE," provided an overview of satellite ocean color, how NASA "sees" aquatic algae from an altitude of 700 km, and the value of both for water quality monitoring.

International Ocean Color Science Meeting (IOCS) Multi-sensor Ocean Color (MSOC) course

From December 6-11, Anna Windle and Carina Poulin served as instructors at the first International Ocean Color Science Meeting (IOCS) Multi-sensor Ocean Color (MSOC) course, held at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. They presented on the PACE mission, atmospheric correction, and PACE data products as well as provided hands-on coding experience with three Python-based Jupyter Notebook tutorials.

International Ocean Color Science Meeting (IOCS) HyperCP and ThoMaS trainings

On December 5, Dirk Aurin participated in giving a course on HyperCP, an open-source software designed for the automated processing of in situ hyperspectral ocean color radiometric data from above-surface measurements, and the ThoMaS tool (Tool to generate Matchups of OC products with Sentinel- 3/OLCI).

Hyperspectral Community Event

From December 11-12, Morgaine McKibben and Skye Caplan attended the Hyperspectral Community Event, hosted by Esri and NV5 in Louisville, CO. This working group connected government organizations, commercial data providers, data analysis providers, and key industries to discuss advancing the state of the industry and expanding access, utility, and impact of hyperspectral data for users and decision-makers worldwide.

Point Loma Optimist Club

On October 14, Bridget Seegers presented to the Point Loma Optimist Club a talk titled "P is for Plankton", which covered NASA Earth Science by focusing on work by the Ocean Ecology Lab. The talk highlighted why ocean color research is critical, the Cyanobacteria Assessment Network (CyAN), and the exciting data being gathered by the PACE mission.
