Gulf Stream Eddy

The Gulf Stream is warm current that flows along the eastern United States (US). This image is centered on the portion of the Gulf Stream flowing past the US Mid-Atlantic. It veers eastward at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Swirling eddies periodically meander off the Gulf Stream. One such eddy is seen as a green ring of high chlorophyll directly east of Cape Hatteras. This image was taken by the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) sensor aboard the PACE satellite on May 2, 2024.
