The Earth through the PACE Lens: Atmospheres, Oceans, Land, and Lakes - The multidisciplinary science of the PACE mission

December 9-13, 2024
AGU Annual Meeting, Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C.
After more than twenty years of preparation, the NASA Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) mission successfully launched on 8 February 2024. The spacecraft hosts three instruments – the Ocean Color Imager (OCI), the Hyper-Angular Rainbow Polarimeter #2 (HARP 2), and the Spectro-polarimeter for Planetary Exploration (SPEXone) – a first of its kind mission in terms of its ability to simultaneously measure the optical properties of water bodies, land, and atmosphere. This interdisciplinary session invites studies of oceans, lakes, land, aerosols, and clouds on topics including radiative transfer theory, algorithm development – including machine learning approaches, ocean/aquatic system biogeochemistry, terrestrial processes, validation, and process studies of the Earth system. Studies that demonstrate the connections between atmosphere, ocean/aquatic systems, and/or land and the synergistic nature of PACE’s three sensors are strongly encouraged. This session is intended to foster connections between our communities to allow full exploitation of PACE’s unique dataset.
