[20-Aug-18] Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution marine chemist Ken Buesseler (right) helps deploy a sediment trap from the R/V Roger Revelle during the EXPORTS cruise in the Atlantic. Sediment traps, which catch sinking particles that are settling in the water column, are used to study the fate of carbon in the ocean. During EXPORTS, these sediment traps captured this marine "snow" in order to better understand what types of matter sink and which are consumed or broken down before reaching the Twilight Zone.
