[11-Aug-24] Vast numbers of phytoplankton color the Barents Sea in various shades. The brightest colors may indicate that coccolithophores are present. These tiny protists make and shed tiny calcite plates that reflect sunlight back to space. This image was taken by the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) sensor aboard the PACE satellite on August 8, 2024.
