[01-July-24] The Great Lakes is a series of five large interconnected freshwater bodies spanning the Canada-United States border. Lake Erie the shallowest of the five, is at the lower right in this image. It has been plagued by seasonal blooms of a blue-green algae (i.e., cyanobacteria) that can produce toxins that pose a risk to human and animal health. This image was taken by the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) sensor aboard the PACE satellite on July 1, 2024.
