[25-Oct-24] This pair of images shows true color and phytoplankton diversity off the United States mid-Atlantic region. The true color image shows high concentrations of microscopic algae (phytoplankton) along the coast and in the Gulf of Maine (north and east of Cape Cod). The MOANA algorithm uses hyperspectral data from PACE's Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) to identify plankton species: Synechococcus (pink) and picoeukaryotes (green). The true color image was taken by the OCI sensor aboard the PACE satellite on October 25, 2024.
