Another winter, another bloom of Noctiluca Scintillans in the Arabian Sea. A pall of atmospheric aerosols is seen above. This AquaMODIS scene was acquired on Feb. 6, 2023.
Such widespread blooms of Noctiluca Scintillans – a large, green dinoflagellate – has become common. This occured after a radical shift in the composition of winter phytoplankton blooms – previously comprised mainly of diatoms – that began early this century.
