While the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI), PACE’s primary sensor, is set to provide a fluorescence line height product, it does not fully exploit the OCI’s full-spectrum capabilities. We propose an innovative chlorophyll fluorescence full-spectrum retrieval method for PACE. This method not only offers a more robust estimate of absolute fluorescence but also reveals additional information on the vertical profile of fluorescence emissions in the ocean. Leveraging our extensive experience with the intricacies of solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) retrieval algorithms across both land and ocean, we aim to build upon and adopt an earlier algorithm framework by Erickson et al. Up to this point, this algorithm has been primarily applied to a limited subset of airborne PRISM data. However, with the launch of PACE, we have a unique opportunity to implement a full-spectrum fit on a global scale. This will significantly enhance the information content of the fluorescence retrieval process and enable a robust uncertainty quantification.
