New Zealand's North and South Islands are surrounded by various types of clouds including icy high-level cirrus, open cell cumulus with a "bubbly" appearance, and low clouds that have formed along the islands' terrain. Along the coasts, teal and brown colors indicate turbid waters stirred by tides and sediment-laden outflows from rivers. Lighter blue swirls seen to the east of the islands indicate high ocean productivity associated with ocean eddies.
