South American Upwelling
[11-Apr-24] Upwelling off the coasts of Peru and Ecuador is a significant ecological process that moves cold, nutrient-rich water to the surface of the ocean. The associated primary productivity supports the anchovy fishery, the periodic collapse of which is one sign of the large-scale climate event known as "El NiƱo."
