Gulf Stream Eddy

[02-May-24] The Gulf Stream is warm current that flows along the eastern United States (US). This image is centered on the portion of the Gulf Stream flowing past the US Mid-Atlantic. It veers eastward at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Swirling eddies periodically meander off the Gulf Stream. One such eddy is seen as a green ring of high chlorophyll directly east of Cape Hatteras. This image was taken by the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) sensor aboard the PACE satellite on May 2, 2024.
